Having worked for a company than makes and sells petrolium products, and owns a chain of oil change stores nation wide, our company never changed the oil at less than 5000 miles. Our lab analized random samples to check for wear. No ill effects were found. our quick change stores still "recomended" 3000 mile interval for our loyal customers. The reason, of course was to sell more oil. Read the owners manual to get the proper oil change intervals.
