Can you believe that Ford still hasn't fixed this problem? The Detroit News reports: Texan's death rekindles Ford switch issue.
...Grand Marquis was one of 16 million Ford vehicles built with an electrical switch that has been linked to nearly 550 fires and about 1,500 complaints.Ford used the same bad switch for 11 years? The recalls have been going on for eight years now (started in 1999) and still all the affected vehicles have not been fixed.Since 1999, Ford has recalled 6.85 million vehicles with the switches, making it one of the largest auto safety recalls in U.S. history. On Monday, Ford again expanded the recall of vehicles with the speed control switches in question. The latest recall included 155,000 2003 model SUVs and pickup trucks. But millions of vehicles with the switch, including Gavegan's Grand Marquis, have not been recalled.
Why did Ford continue to use the questionable switch for years after the recalls started? (2003 model year vehicles are being recalled -- that's four years after the first recall.)
This is beyond unacceptable.
The Ford Fusion is a good car. What switch is in there that Ford knows is bad? We guess we'll find out in 2011.
hmmm 55o fires and 1500 complains compared to the 16 million cars sold. thats less than one percent hardly a big deal
