The Detroit News reports: GM: No. 1 spot at risk. OK, OK, it hasn't actually happened yet. But, come on. We all know 2007 will be known as the year Toyota passed GM as the number one car maker.
[Rick] Wagoner, GM's chairman and chief executive, said Thursday that GM sold 9.1 million vehicles last year, but the automaker will not chase unprofitable sales volumes just to stay in first place."If as a result of that we get passed, well, it won't be a happy day for me," Wagoner told reporters at a media briefing in Detroit. "But I've lost basketball games before in my life. You've got to get ready and you learn and you go back to play the next day."

Rick Wagoner: Gentlemen, we have to concede that Toyota will pass us for sure in 2007 and that...
(Bill Ford, former CEO of Ford Motor Company kicks open door to boardroom. He is wearing gym shorts, tank top, and carrying a basketball).
Bill Ford (yelling): WHO WANTS TO PLAY SOME HOOPS, BIOTCH!
Of Course Toyota will beat the domestic auto industry. Our processes are based on personalities and theirs are based on process and continuous improvments

Toyota may well pass GMC in 2007.
But I see GMC saying that it will
not chase after unprofitable sales
to stay at #1 a very positive sign.
The General has some sharp new products
coming on to the market, so maybe
these vehicles will push GMC back to
the front again.
