The Detroit News reports: Alliance talks bog down. Parts? They were talking about parts? Look, we're no businessmen or anything and we're guessing "parts" are plenty important, but it sure would have been sexier if they were going to merge and pop out a new line of cars... the likes of which we have NEVER SEEN BEFORE! But, no, they're talking retainer clips and lug nuts.
We'd also like to know whether Kerkorian has sold any more stock since these "talks" were announced. It sure looks like GM's stock has rebounded to be back where it was about a year ago. Were the talks a way to help the stock price?
One problem with this post: It doesn't address the fact that the car companies haven't done much with the obvious information about emissions for many years, instead trading knowledge for profits now unattainable.
I'm a Ford man, I live in Detroit and love my Cobra, but let's be honest: The Americans are making tons of cars getting no mileage that nobody is buying. Gas prices are soaring and fuel efficiency is a big sell point, yet the Americans lag behind, unable to adapt or change. I'm a hardcore Republican living in the backyard of the Motor City and watching the failings of our car companies is worth a daily blog in and of itself.
