Big news in the auto world! GM CEO Rick Wagoner hands over North American operations to new dude! Everyone is writing about it, too:
Autoblog reports: Troy Clarke named president of GM North America.
The Detroit News reports: GM taps labor expert to lead U.S. operation.
Troy Clarke, president of the automaker's Asia Pacific region and a company veteran with a background in manufacturing and labor negotiations, will take the reins from Wagoner, who assumed day-to-day control of North America last year amid stunning losses. The appointment of Clarke puts a seasoned labor negotiator at the helm of GM's largest sales region -- a year before the company renegotiates a critically-important labor contract with the United Auto Workers.
Jalopnik reports: Breaking! GM’s Rick Wagoner Cedes Control of North America To Troy Clarke, Adds New Army in Asia; Game of ‘Risk’ Continues.
Specifically Troy Clarke, the prez of the growing GM Asia Pacific division since 2004 will be moving over to the not-so-much-growing GM North America division to head the stuck-but-maybe-turning-around team at the RenCen. Sounds like fun — especially cause Rick’s been running the whole show by himself for months now. Sounds to us like a fun job — moving over to take over the crown-jewel, all with Rick watching from the floor above.
Mr. Clarke, you have the conn.
