Autoblog reports: GM to shutter Saab engine plant, develop up to four new Opels?. OK, this isn't necessarily a death blow for Saab, but as GM takes more and more away from Saab our question is: When is it no longer a Saab? GM first bought 1/2 of Saab in 1989 and GM's influence was quickly felt in the then all-new Saab 900s. It had lots of Saab but also quite a bit of GM (the parts that broke*). Now with the current 9-3, we don't really feel it's much of a Saab at all. We're not saying it's a bad car or anything, just not what we think of when we think of Saab. We're not buying any of this Born From Jets ad campaign that GM/Saab's trying to pull on us, either. Anyway, when will the name have to change from Saab to Opel?
*We kid!
