Man, for a while Infiniti was sorta suckin'. The Q was (still is) Quietly suffering in low sales, the I35 was so benign they closed it down and... well, Infiniti was really a Nissan hand-me-down company instead of the other way around.
But now... it's all different. Infiniti's line-up is strong (save the lame Q) and apparently turning so many heads that comparisons with BMW aren't in BMW's favor.
We first thought it was interesting that About.com's BJ Killeen said her benchmark to the 2006 BMW 3-series wouldn't be the 2005... but the Infiniti G35. But then another About tester boldly wrote, Look out, 3 - Here comes G!.
Now, before you go ballistic and say, "Don't you guys do some [minor] work for About.com on the side? This is totally unfair! And you are all fat." Yes, shucks, yeah, maybe. And there's no doubt we've gained... But, and the reason we mention it now is, someone we don't work for, The New York Times,* is totally diggin the new M series from Infiniti.
So what happened to BMW? Oh, we know they aren't down for the count by any stretch, but we think the Japanese manufacturers found a can of whoop-ass** and opened it in Germany's direction. And that's kinda cool.
*Dammit, NYT bought About.com. We can't win. We still aren't tipping the newspaper boy.
**This is our first post using whoop-ass. Heh. Whoop-ass.
