RE "Speaking of signs, we got a kick out of the NYTimes article Taking Down the 'No Foreign Cars' Signs in Michigan. . . . Michigan's governor (they have a lady governor!... no wonder Ford and Chevy can't make a car that lasts 10 years like they should) is close to getting a deal to have Toyota build some vehicles there. That's a very big deal. Hope it works out for the folks in Michigan... they need the jobs."

I think I know why the signs came down: Governor Jennifer Granholm was born in Canada. At least we in California never have had a hangup about imports: cars, politicians, actors, or even flour-skinned tourists.
