Part II in our series of helping you pick the car that's best for you. It's the question everyone has -- what car should I buy? Well, in order to solve the problem of what car people should buy, we've devised a five-part series called: What Should I Buy? Today we tackle convertibles. Using hard science we've analyzed past purchases by the majority of buyers and come up with these answers based on the potential buyer's personalities:
I'm dull
Toyota Solara
It's for my wife
VW Beetle
I'm a doctor
Chevrolet Corvette
...no, a plastic surgeon
Mercedes Benz SL 600
...in a trauma center
Volvo C70
It's for my mistress
Lexus SC430
..She's better looking than that
Jaguar XK8
I like to drive:
Honda S2000
Okay, once again we'll get serious. It's very hard to pick a convertible without knowing all your exact needs but the ones we think are the pick of the litter are:
Under $25k | Under $35k | Under $45k | Under $55k |
Mazda Miata | Honda S2000 | BMW Z4 | Porsche Boxster |
Got different needs? Okay we can handle that:
Family oriented | Luxury | Performance | Oh sweet mama! |
Volvo C70 | BMW 6-series | Dodge Viper | Mercedes SL 600 |
I agree with Dave, the Corvette is a much better car than the Porsche Boxster. One would have to upgrade to the Carrera or the Turbo to compete with the Corvette.

Yes, I'd buy a Boxster over a bend-in-the-middle Corvette vert any day. Now a Vette with a roof, that's another story.
No it's not, I'd wait for Cayman RS.

Very mature post GALA, it's clear why you choose the American breed over the Europeon.

Don't forget the Mustang. It's gorgeous, affordable and the 2005 ragtop is better than ever!
