The theme of 2004 NY Auto Show, while unwritten, was clear: Luxury. Now it's not hard to pick a great car when you've got money falling out of your pockets. Anyone can look stlyin' pulling up in a new BMW or Lexus. But for those of us with budgets and mortgages to pay there's gotta be a decent car out there we can afford, right?
Sure is. And it's not a compromise, either. Two of our three picks have been talked about here often and that's because their new designs have been worthy of a lot of praise. And the prices... the word is affordable.
So, here's our pick of the three bargain cars in their class (as shown at the 2004 NY Auto Show):
Toyota Corolla: $17,300
The Corolla isn't the car it used to be. It sorta snuck up on everyone in the last few years and became an attractive, affordable and reliable vehicle. Our friends at Family Car.com recently did a test drive of the Toyota Corolla and poured on lots of praise. We, too, recommend this car.
Malibu Maxx: $22,500
We really, really like the versatility in this car. The Malibu Maxx has the chance to be as common as the station wagon was in the 70s.
Chrysler 300: $23,600
If you want more room and more style for less money, the 2005 Chrysler 300 is the car for you. Coming in under $24k (to start) the car comes nicely equipped and should prove to be a great ride if you have a family that needs a little more elbow room. Even the low-sticker version comes with the style and space you'll need. Want a Hemi (that's Chrysler's big V-8)? Drop a few more bucks and it's yours.
It's true none of these cars (at the price points listed) are luxury cars, but they should prove to be reliable (I'm pullin' for you Detroit, really I am!) and very comfortable cars. Make sure to check them out when shopping for your next car.
