Man, we haven't been this excited about a car in a while. And we haven't been excited about anything Detroit's been pushing on the US market... ever!
Big is out, small is in. Not tiny. Not cramped. Just... just... right. There's a new wave of cars coming and thankfully they aren't just more SUVs. Yes, Detroit has heard the plea of Cars! Cars! Cars! Enough of the SUVs that aren't used off-road. Or that are only used to carry a driver and a thimble.
Detroit is sending out a few concept cars for everyone to look at -- but the one that caught our eye is the Nomad. The Chevrolet Nomad is just a concept but we guarantees that if this were a product for the 2005 model year, Chevy wouldn't be able to make enough. Most people need the utility of a wagon but don't have the space (or, ahem, desire) for a full-sized station wagon. Much less the Dodge Magnum. The Nomad, with its scant 13 feet of length, would make it easy to carry most of what we need and still be able to park pretty much where ever we wanted. And, it's a good lookin' car.
CNN has a great review of current small cars and some of the ones we'll maybe see in a year or two. With Japan's domination of the car market we had worried Detroit had given up on that and were going to keep their focus on trucks. And we never expected Detroit to have some entries for the small car segment.
While still in the concept stage, it's a great sign that Detroit is thinking the SUV craze won't be going on forever. And maybe these ideas will bring an end to the saying, bigger is better.
What can I say but...that is a amazing car!! Hope that GM isn't out of business before it's produced, or before a toy company can make a scale model/toy, at least.

Decent looking efficient vehicles. Now they need to start cutting some of the fat. Hack of some of the brands and lines that are not making money. If they don't do it soon, they are done to the Asian car, and maybe Chrysler, now.
