Cars! Cars! Cars! Parking Lot

Jalopnik reports: Most Amazing Porsche Crash To NOT Result In Death. Pretty amazing: this multi-time flippin' crash. Not-so amazing: the driver was generally unhurt. Sadly amazing: many are still dying on roads because we don't have cars as safe as these. Why is that?

Autoblog reports: See? A car company can turn around. Just ask Fiat. Ha! We knew as soon as GM and Fiat parted ways that Fiat would be OK. In fact, we said: Fiat Wins!.

Autoblog reports: BMW reportedly interested in buying Volvo? This will happen. Watch.

Pretty Karmann

Fiat_x_1_9No, not that Carmen, this Karmann: The Forgotten Karmann Ghia. You know, that is a sweet-looking ride.

We drove a 1979 Fiat X1/9 many, many, sigh, many years ago and we always liked the shape of it. We didn't like our ability to roll backwards into cars, stall at lights, buck and shake in front of Sue Sherba as we pulled out of a level parking spot. Crap, what the hell is wrong with us? Can't we just pull out of the spot without having Sue point and laugh? Then lean over to her girlfriends and laugh some more while drawing really insulting caricatures? And, really, was the wedgie necessary?... Why did we like this car again? It was a mid-engine, targa-topped box of coolness. It was the only car we've owned that was cooler than we were (which really goes to show what beaters we've driven since we're about as far from cool as Alison is close to sweetdamnhotness).

So, which car is too cool to be forgotten?

That's a snap of a '78 Fiat X1/9. Ours was white and therefore cooler.

Fiat: We Got Money, We Got Money, We Got Sacks And Sacks Of Money. Moneyyyyyy!

We_got_moneyAutoblog reports: Fiat posts another profitable quarter, raises forecast. We figured Fiat would be better off without GM around, but what we can't figure out is, if Fiat is somewhat close to profitability, why would GM pay 'em $2 billion and split? If that $2 billion GM gave Fiat helped Fiat make some moolah, why wouldn't GM hang around to get some for itself? Or at least to say, "See? We knew we could help Fiat rock!"

Yes, that headline is to be sung to the old Letterman song, "We Get Letters." We also have no idea what's up with our money pictures today.... A theme?
