More Popular Than Jesus

At least in China. reports: Buick More Popular in China.

The Chinese revere Buick’s heritage, and sales in that country increased more than 27% in 2006. That’s such a large boost, that Buick will sell more cars this year in China than it does in the U.S.
Can anyone explain what the Chinese see in Buick? How can Buick get that kind of love here in the states?

Buick: We Don't Need No Stinkin' Toyotas!

The Detroit News reports: Honda leads car quality in China. Sure Honda is kickin' ass in terms of quality, but that's not the news.

Check out the graphic -- Buick trumps Toyota! W00t! Buick's da man!

Buick The Next Cadillac?

Buick_enclaveAutoblog reports: Buick says hello to Enclave, goodbye to Rainier, Rendezvous. You know, at one time that would have been an insult, but now... Buick seems to be jettisoning the nast and (something somewhat positive here, but not too positive... it is Buick after all).

We think the LaCrosse is decent, the Lucerne is very good and, if they don't screw it up, the Enclave appears to be a great crossover. Just last year we'da written Buick off, so kudos to GM for maybe turning Buick around.

Crap, how lousy to you have to be to get a kudos from us for maybe doing something. Actually, that's our M.O. for dating. Set the expectations so low that despite not having a job if we don't pick our nose at the table, they think we're gold!

Buick's The Man!

06_lucerneDuring the 2006 NY Auto Show, we stopped at the Buick booth. No, it had nothing to do with the biscotti and coffee (in a square cup—those hipsters at Buick!). OK, it had everything to do with the biscotti. OK, really it was the coffee. Sweet, sweet coffee. In fact, as we entered the Buick booth, our hands got thin and shaky, our hair got gray, we bent over some, and we started to think, "Hey, this here Buick is mighty fine." Then we had some coffee and our hands went back to normal, our hair fell out (we made up the part about it going gray), and we straightened up, but, you know, we still think the Lucerne was pretty danged decent. We sat and sat. Pushed and pulled. Opened and closed. We like the Lucerne, and so does Bob Elton who writes Buick: Isn't It Time for a Real Car?. Mr. Elton focuses a bit more on the LaCrosse (our take: "eh"), but his overall message was that Buick should be the Caddy for the rest of us. It's a solid idea, and Buick should listen. Buick: V-8, better handling, and dead-quiet interior. If you dudes at Buick do that, you'll win.
