The Detroit News reports: Storm clouds gather over Ford. It's such a bad time for Ford that's it's ceasing to be fun to pick on them. One analyst said this
"Ford's new product development -- or lack of it -- will haunt Ford for years, certainly through the end of the decade," said Erich Merkle, director of forecasting at IRN Inc. in Grand Rapids.Sadly, we agree with that more than not. Ford has a few decent vehicles in the current line-up: Fusion, Mustang, ... uh... Ford, you are still making the Taurus? WTF, dudes! That's the kind of thinking ("it's profitable") that makes us feel no bit of pity for you. If one can even feel pity for a corporation. Ford is lucky that partners Mazda and wholly-owned subsidiary Volvo make good cars. Maybe Ford will learn something. Here's our free suggestion: Focus (ha!) more on the Edge and its ilk and let the Explorer go. Everyone is over the Explorer.
The Detroit News reports: Does GM have cash to fund comeback? We've been meaning to comment on this for a while—sorry it's a bit old now (March 30!, how long do we let links hang around?). The only people who seem to believe GM has the ability to turn it around are: Bob Lutz, Rick Wagoner and those who hate FoMoCo. GM seems to have a bit of life in it based on what they've done with Cadillac (for the record, we don't really like the Caddies, but we admire the work GM has done with the brand) and if GM can do that with one more brand (Saturn doesn't count since the new Saturns are just Opels) we'll start to come around.

You just know I'm going to take the opposite view about Ford not having good cars. Well, let me think about it and I'll post :)
